The Premier Insurance Company Changes Brand Name to Travelers of Massachusetts

October 19, 2007

WORCESTER, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--

The Premier Insurance Company of Massachusetts, an independent personal auto insurance subsidiary of The Travelers Companies, Inc. (NYSE:TRV), today announced the company will change its brand name to Travelers of Massachusetts.

"Travelers is a nationally recognized insurance carrier with a long history of delivering on its promise to policyholders," said Dick Welch, president of Premier Insurance Company, the underwriting company for Travelers of Massachusetts. "Leveraging the strength of the Travelers brand enhances our ability to market products to agents and customers, while solidifying our commitment to the Massachusetts insurance marketplace."

By creating a stronger identity with its parent company, Travelers of Massachusetts will be recognized for other forward-thinking product offerings and services that Travelers is already well known for all over the country, such as its hybrid car discount currently available in other states. The innovative ConciergeClaim Center in Woburn is the only facility of its kind in Massachusetts providing customers a hassle-free auto claim experience where Travelers of Massachusetts takes care of every detail from start to finish, including appraisal, car rental and repair arrangements, all in a one-stop-shopping experience for the customer's convenience.

"Travelers of Massachusetts is well-poised to compete for business when the managed competition system takes effect next April and is committed to a smooth transition," said Joseph P. Lacher Jr., executive vice president, Travelers Personal Insurance and Select Accounts. "It's an exciting time for Travelers of Massachusetts. Now more than ever, they have the opportunity to grow their auto business within the Commonwealth."

"Our brand name may be changing but our commitment to customers and agents remains as strong as ever," adds Welch. "Back in 1897, Travelers was first in the country to issue an auto insurance policy covering a one-cylinder car built by a mechanic in Westfield, Massachusetts. Now, more than one hundred years later, we're still in Massachusetts, still guiding generations of customers through all their insurance needs."

Travelers is a company of many "firsts." In addition to the first auto policy, Travelers issued the first insurance on aerial transportation and years later issued the first accident policies for space flight and exploration. More recent industry-leading innovations include wedding insurance, ID theft resolution protection and a policy discount for drivers of hybrid cars.

Travelers of Massachusetts was established as The Premier Insurance Company of Massachusetts in 1993 to provide personal lines auto insurance. Travelers of Massachusetts will be the "umbrella" brand name for all personal insurance policies like auto, homeowners, personal liability, identity theft, wedding and other coverages throughout the state issued by a Travelers company in Massachusetts including The Premier Insurance Company of Ma, The Phoenix Insurance Company, The Travelers Indemnity Company, The Standard Fire Insurance Company, and The Travelers Commercial Insurance Company. It is important to note that The Premier Insurance Company of Massachusetts is a separate and distinct company from all other Travelers companies. This means that the auto insurance products provided by Premier are not underwritten, reinsured or guaranteed by any other Travelers company. For more information, visit www.travelersma.com.
