SAINT PAUL, Minn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--
Travelers has been named by BusinessWeek as one of the "Best
Places to Launch a Career" in the magazine's annual ranking of
employers across the country. The survey, which appears in the
September 24, 2007 issue, ranks Travelers as the top property casualty
insurer on the list.
"We're honored to be recognized as a great company for individuals
to begin their careers with," says John Clifford, executive vice
president, human resources. "In today's job market, competition is
stiff among employers to attract entry-level employees. In order to
attract the best talent, we have to be in-synch with what young
professionals are looking for in a company."
One of the advantages Travelers offers entry-level employees is
the opportunity to participate in one of five Leadership Development
Programs. These programs allow participants to rotate every six to
nine months through several areas within a department they designate
as a field of interest, such as financial management or information
technology. They learn by doing and, at the conclusion of the two to
three years of rotational assignments, have a better idea of what
opportunities within the company are the best fit for them.
Additionally, to serve the job search needs of recent college
graduates, Travelers launched a new Careers Web site this month at
www.travelers.com/careers. The site offers a wide range of tools
specifically for the entry-level candidate, such as resume preparation
and tips on interviewing and transitioning from school to work. It
also includes an interactive "major match-up" tool to help students
and new graduates find opportunities that best fit their educational
background.
BusinessWeek ranks companies based on an extensive survey given to
college career services directors, employers and college students.
Respondents are asked to comment on hiring practices, pay scales,
benefits and overall work environment. Ranked number 37 out of 95
companies, Travelers is listed among such industry leaders as
Microsoft, Walt Disney, General Electric and Deloitte & Touche.
