HARTFORD, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--
On the final day of competition at the Travelers Championship, Travelers
(NYSE:TRV) announced a commitment by the Travelers Foundation to raise
the tournament's total charitable contribution to $1.08 million for
2009, putting the tournament's charitable contribution on par with the
champion's winnings. This added contribution from the Travelers
Foundation, which Travelers estimates will be approximately $330,000, is
in addition to the previous commitments from the company and its
employees through Birdies for Charity.
"We're honored to have Kenny Perry as this year's champion of the
Travelers Championship," said Jay Fishman, Travelers Chairman and Chief
Executive Officer. "But the principal winners of this tournament are the
designated charities, The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp and the Greater
Hartford Jaycees Foundation.
"This week has been a tremendous success made possible through the
commitment and participation of the terrific player field, fans,
sponsors, volunteers and countless others. The widespread and growing
support for this event makes it possible to raise significant funds and
awareness for the Jaycees and The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp. At a
moment when the public's need for these organizations couldn't be
greater, we believe it is right for Travelers to make this additional
contribution."
The Travelers Championship, Connecticut's PGA TOUR event at TPC River
Highlands in Cromwell, contributes 100 percent of net proceeds to
Connecticut charities, primarily The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp, which
serves children suffering from cancer and other serious diseases, and
the Greater Hartford Jaycees Foundation, a leadership development and
community service organization.
In addition, the tournament offers fundraising programs so that every
charity in the state may utilize the event as a way to raise funds. In
2009, more than 120 Connecticut charitable organizations will benefit
from the Travelers Championship.
