New Insurance Form Includes Coverage for Equipment Used in Safety
Compliance
HARTFORD, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--
In 2011, the Federal
Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) will fully implement its
new program, Comprehensive
Safety Analysis 2010 (CSA 2010). Travelers (NYSE: TRV)
is helping its trucking industry customers prepare for the coming
changes by introducing a new coverage form for the on-board equipment
used to capture data that may help improve safety performance in
accordance with CSA 2010.
“CSA 2010 and the new measures under Behavior Analysis Safety
Improvement Categories (BASICs) look at the end result of safety
management practices,” said Joe Tracy, President, Travelers Inland
Marine. “In addition to the new coverage form, Travelers is helping its
customers implement transportation safety management practices that may
reduce accidents and violations, potentially improving future CSA 2010
scores.”
Travelers encourages all commercial motor carriers to take steps now to
prepare for the full implementation of CSA 2010. Carriers should first
review their records through the FMCSA website and ensure that the
information is correct. Addressing any and all safety problems now by
instituting driver safety management best practices and continuing to
provide driver education and training may help commercial motor carriers
potentially avoid rule violations. Carriers should also talk with their
independent insurance agent about the new safety requirements, what the
changes to the law mean for their businesses and how their current
insurance policies may need to be adjusted to meet their changing needs.
