Commitments from Travelers Put Contribution on Par with Champion’s
Winnings
HARTFORD, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--
The 2011 Travelers
Championship will generate in excess of $1 million for charity,
including commitments from Travelers, bringing the tournament’s total
2011 charitable contribution to an amount on par with the champion’s
$1.08 million winnings. The announcement was made by Travelers Chairman
and Chief Executive Officer Jay Fishman today during the final round of
competition at the Travelers Championship.
The tournament contributes 100 percent of net proceeds to more than 130
local charities including The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp, which provides
an extraordinary camp experience for children suffering from cancer and
other serious diseases.
“The week has been a tremendous success, capped off by a terrific finish
by champion Fredrik Jacobson,” said Fishman. “This additional
contribution is a way for Travelers
to show our appreciation for the commitment and participation of the
players, fans, sponsors, volunteers and countless others who made the
week possible.”
Travelers is proud to mark its fifth year as title sponsor of the
Travelers Championship. A focus for 2011 has been to create new
partnerships for the tournament to help raise awareness and funds for
more charities, while continuing to deliver a tremendous experience for
players and their families, caddies, sponsors and, most importantly, the
fans.
The tournament offers fundraising programs that allow any charity in the
state to use the tournament to raise funds. Additionally, Travelers and
its employees annually participate in Birdies for Charity, a program
that collects pledges for every birdie made during the Travelers
Championship, to raise additional funds for the tournament’s charities.
“We congratulate 19-year-old Patrick Cantlay for his inspired play
during the week, shooting a course record of 60, the lowest round ever
for an amateur on the PGA TOUR,” said Fishman. “We also extend our
personal thanks to Tournament Director Nathan Grube and his staff as
well as TPC River Highlands Superintendent Tom DeGrandi and his team for
doing a tremendous job this week. We look forward to another successful
tournament in 2012.”
The 2012 Travelers Championship will be held June 18 - 24 at TPC River
Highlands in Cromwell, Conn.
