Leading Voices in Economics, Business and Politics Discuss Impact
and Possible Solutions
WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--
President Bill Clinton, Governor Mitch Daniels, Senators Judd Gregg and
Kent Conrad, Mayor Cory Booker and Former OMB and CBO Directors Alice
Rivlin and Peter Orszag are among the government, business and community
leaders who offer their perspectives on America’s debt crisis and its
implications for the nation’s future in “Overdraft,”
a new documentary that will be premiered on June 11, 2012, at The Mint
Museum in Charlotte, N.C. The Travelers
Institute has underwritten the documentary, produced by Susie Films,
with WTVI-TV,
the Charlotte PBS affiliate. WTVI will air the one-hour film on June 18,
2012, at 8 p.m. EDT. A national distribution schedule will be announced
later this summer.
“The inevitable impact of demographic trends in the U.S. will result in
additional federal spending of $1 trillion more in 2020 than today's
level. Absent action, the cumulative effect of this trend has the
ability to significantly compromise America's future,” said Jay Fishman,
Chairman and CEO of The Travelers Companies, Inc., who shares his views
in the documentary. “‘Overdraft’ will give viewers a better
understanding of the deficit’s critical implications, both in their
daily lives and for continued U.S. economic competitiveness, and
highlights the choices that will have to be made to enable our country
to continue to prosper. I benefited tremendously from the American
opportunity and feel a deep sense of responsibility for preserving it
for future generations.”
As an advocate for economic opportunity, Travelers has joined forces
with some of the leading public minds on this topic to raise Americans’
awareness of this pressing issue, discuss ways to manage the problem,
and motivate individuals to participate in the ongoing economic debate.
“WTVI is pleased to have been a part of this documentary, which should
be seen by every American. The subject is probably the biggest threat to
our nation in our lifetime and we need to figure a way out sooner rather
than later,” said Elsie Garner, President of WTVI.
The producer for “Overdraft” is Scott Galloway, founder of Susie Films,
which has produced more than 650 television programs for networks
including ABC, History Channel, A&E, Court TV, ESPN, Food Network, HGTV,
and the Travel Channel. Highlights of Galloway’s television career
include “America's Castles,” “Crime Stories,” “The Greatest Trials of
All Time,” and the New York Film and Television Award-winning
documentary “The Scottsboro Boys.” He also directed and produced the
feature-length documentaries “A Man Named Pearl” and “Children of All
Ages.”
