As One of Nearly 12,000 Submissions, Deficit Film Underwritten by the
Travelers Institute Wins in Nine Categories
NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--
The Travelers Companies, Inc. (NYSE: TRV) today announced that Overdraft,
the documentary underwritten by the company about the growing U.S.
deficit and its implications for the American Opportunity, has received
nine Telly Awards.
“As an advocate for economic opportunity, Travelers Institute’s main
goal in sponsoring the film was to raise awareness of the consequences
of inaction on the federal deficit,” said Joan Woodward, Executive Vice
President of Public Policy and President of the Travelers Institute, the
company’s public policy division. “This recognition from the Telly
Awards affirms Overdraft’s mission of generating nonpartisan,
thoughtful discussion on one of the most pressing issues of our time.”
Overdraft took home two silver awards, the highest honor, in the
informational documentary and graphic animation categories. The film
also earned seven bronze awards in the political commentary, music, art
direction, editing, and sound design categories.
“Our goal with the film was to inform and inspire viewers on one of the
most significant issues the country faces by attempting to take an
unbiased and visually unique look, while hearing from a diverse
collection of decision makers, economists, journalists, and individuals
directly impacted by the crisis,” said Scott Galloway, the film’s
producer.
Overdraft included commentary from the country’s leading voices
on the national debt topic —including former President Bill Clinton;
former Chairmen of the Senate Budget Committee Kent Conrad and Judd
Gregg; and Alan Simpson, a former Senator from Wyoming and a Co-Chair of
the National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform — to create Overdraft.
Travelers partnered with Susie Films, who independently produced the
film.
It is available to public television stations across the country through
the National Educational Telecommunications Association. The Travelers
Institute has also conducted a multi-year University
Symposia Series to screen the film and spark discussion among
college students around the country.
