This year, as part of the tournament’s commitment to generating funds
and awareness for charity, four young individuals from Connecticut who
have demonstrated outstanding leadership in promoting charitable causes
will serve as Honorary Co-Chairs. They will join officials from
Travelers, the Official Property Casualty Insurance Provider of the PGA
TOUR; the State of Connecticut; the Travelers Championship; and The Hole
in the Wall Gang Camp at Opening Ceremonies at 9 a.m. EDT today.
The 2015 Honorary Co-Chairs and their charitable initiatives are:
Mackenzie Page – The Great Pumpkin Challenge; Chase Skrubis – Klubs for
Kids; Ben Goldman – Ben Goldman’s Charity Corner; and Brittany Vose –
Lustgarten Foundation 18-Hole Stroll. The Honorary Co-Chairs will also
take part in Closing Ceremonies and the FML CPAs Celebrity Mini Golf
Tournament, which takes place on Wednesday, June 24.
“The Travelers Championship not only helps our business and the local
economy, but it is also a platform that can help the smallest non-profit
organizations enhance awareness for their cause and grow financially,”
said Andy Bessette, Executive Vice President and Chief Administrative
Officer of Travelers. “The inspirational stories from this year’s
Honorary Co-Chairs are an example of why everyone at Travelers is proud
to be a part of this world-class event.”
Since Travelers became title sponsor in 2007, the Travelers Championship
has generated more than $8 million for more than 500 charities
throughout New England, including The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp, a
summer camp for children battling serious illnesses.
In what is now a tradition at the Travelers Championship, PGA TOUR
players will again have the chance to win $10,000 for the charity of
their choice, donated by Travelers, during Tuesday’s practice round. The
pros will compete for the first hole-in-one or closest to the pin on The
Umbrella at 15 ½, a 40-foot floating green in the shape of the iconic
Travelers red umbrella logo on the pond between holes 15 and 16. Past
winners include Richard H. Lee, Justin Rose, Chad Campbell, Ricky
Barnes, and Ben Kohles.
For the first time at the Travelers Championship, Operation Birdies will
take place on the Military Appreciation Hole at TPC River Highlands
throughout the competition rounds. Kaman will make a $100 donation to
Birdies for the Brave Homefront Groups for every birdie that PGA TOUR
professionals make on hole 17. The tournament will also recognize the
military with free admission throughout the week for all active,
reserve, and retired service members and their dependents.
Celebrities will be showing their support for charity on Women’s Day,
hosted by Travelers, and the Travelers Celebrity Pro-Am, with all
proceeds from these events benefitting tournament charities. The
Travelers Celebrity Pro-Am on June 24 will include George Lopez, Matt
Lauer, Chris Berman, Ryan Sheckler, Tim Wakefield, Ray Allen, and other
prominent personalities. Women’s Day will take place on June 25,
featuring Martha Stewart and celebrity chef Cat Cora.
Travelers will hand out 1,000 umbrellas to tournament attendees starting
at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, June 24, to celebrate the first year of its new,
multi-year title sponsorship agreement with the PGA TOUR, which now
extends through 2024. The lights on Travelers Tower in Hartford will
also shine bright red throughout the week of the tournament.
The competition rounds of the Travelers Championship will be played June
25-28. They will be broadcast live on Golf Channel from 3:30 p.m. to
6:30 p.m. EDT on Thursday and Friday; and on Saturday and Sunday from 1
p.m. to 2:30 p.m. EDT on Golf Channel and from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. EDT on
CBS.
