released
SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--
The Travelers
Institute, the public policy division of The Travelers Companies,
Inc. (NYSE: TRV),
today will host its Cyber: Prepare, Prevent, Mitigate, Restore℠
symposium in San Francisco at the Nasdaq Entrepreneurial Center.
Cybersecurity professionals from the public and private sector,
including the Federal Bureau of Investigation, will discuss how
businesses can protect themselves against increasing cyber risks. The
event will be co-hosted by the Nasdaq Entrepreneurial Center, the City
and County of San Francisco, TechRepublic, ZDNet and the UC Berkeley
Center for Law, Business and the Economy.
“Cyber crime poses a significant business threat, particularly for small
and midsized companies and organizations that typically do not have the
resources to adequately respond to a security breach,” said Joan
Woodward, President of the Travelers Institute and Executive Vice
President of Public Policy at Travelers. “Education is critical in
raising awareness and sharing best practices for securing a company’s
network.”
“There isn’t an industry or individual who isn’t challenged with
cybersecurity these days,” said Nicola Corzine, Executive Director,
Nasdaq Entrepreneurial Center. “The Center is proud to host this
critical educational symposium that will help businesses and
organizations better prepare to respond to cyber incidents.”
At the event, Woodward will introduce a resource guide developed by the
Travelers Institute titled Empowering
organizations to tackle evolving cyber threats: A cybersecurity guide
for small and midsized businesses. The guide draws on the
expertise of Travelers cyber risk professionals to offer safeguards for
improving cybersecurity, and is available on TravelersInstitute.org.
Bill Detwiler, Managing Editor of TechRepublic, will deliver the keynote
address on “The Internet of Things: Understanding and Managing Your
Cyber Risks.” Elvis Chan, a Supervisory Special Agent in the San
Francisco Field Office of the FBI, will participate in the panel
discussion “Tackling Evolving Cyber Threats,” moderated by Woodward with
the following panelists:
- Edward Chang, Second Vice President, Cyber Risk Management, Bond &
Specialty Insurance, Travelers
- Alexa King, Executive Vice President, General Counsel, Corporate
Secretary, FireEye
- Joe Voje, Chief Information Security Officer, City and County of San
